Frequently Asked Questions for Swim Meets
What’s the difference between dual meets and USS meets?
Dual meets happen between our club team and another local club team. USS meets (United States Swimming) are sanctioned meets where multiple club teams compete against each other in age-group swimming events. These meets are run by USS Officials, and time standards met here count as qualification times for championship meets.
What are BRW Meets?
BRW stands for Blue, Red, White time standards. These are age-group time-standards that are achieved at USS meets. Blue is the maximum, white is the minimum.
How do we sign up for USS Meets?
There is a swimmer entry fee to swim at USS meets and a cost for each individual event. You must have the check and event sheet filled out three weeks prior to the swim meet in order to compete. Visit our Meet Entries page to see full requirements.
What events should I enter my swimmer in?
We highly suggest that each swimmer consults with their coach to determine which events they should enter into for swim meets. Our coaches have each swimmer’s best interests in mind, and we know which events we want you to swim!
Do we have to wear our team uniform?
Yes! We strongly advise all our swimmers to come ready in our swim team uniforms and swim caps for swim meets. It provides our team with unification and it represents our club team!
What time do warm-ups start?
It varies between dual meets and USS meets. Generally, USS meet warm-ups start earlier in the morning for our 10 and under swimmers (7:00am), and in the early afternoon for our older swimmers (1:00pm). For USS meets, each club team is assigned a lane and warm-up time to accommodate all of the swim teams competing. For dual meets, we generally begin warm-ups at 8:00am.
Tips for Swim Meets
Check with a coach to find out what time to be there for meet warm-up. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your swimmer’s warm-up to allow for set up, checking in, etc.
When you arrive, look for the Glendora Aquatics team area. Our coaches strongly encourage sitting together as a TEAM.
Swimmers must check-in for their events PRIOR to warm-ups. THIS MUST BE DONE BY THE SWIMMER, NOT THE PARENT. **If there is an emergency and you will be arriving late, call a fellow parent to notify the coach. ALL SWIMMERS MUST CHECK IN BEFORE EACH EVENT CLOSES (USUALLY 30 MIN PRIOR TO RACE TIME).
Meet programs will usually have an estimated time line of when your swimmer will race. The program will include each event and where your swimmer is seeded in that event.
Warm-up with your teammates under the supervision of a Glendora Aquatics coach.
Check the posting board to get your Heat/Lane assignment before each race.
Check in with your coach BEFORE and AFTER each race – this is mandatory for every swimmer (SWIMMERS – NOT PARENTS).
